I just got home from a trip to Nashville.

This trip was not planned. I had some time off work and decided to book a flight on a last-minute whim.

What happened next was surprising:

I told a friend of mine I was coming. We met on Twitter a few months ago. He immediately said “I’ll be there.” He drove 3 hours from nearby Alabama just to meet me. I was blown away by his enthusiasm and effort.

The most important vote we make in friendships are with our feet. Showing up for each other in the good times and the bad.

We decided to hit a workout together in Nashville. He picked the gym.

In the midst of the workout, I spotted another guy I follow on Twitter who also happens to be my favorite podcaster. He’s a big Bitcoiner. I introduced myself and within 60 seconds he offered me a free ticket to the Bitcoin conference next week in Miami. I accepted and already booked a flight!

My friend from Alabama hosted a Twitter Space later that day, and the guest speaker happened to live in Nashville. We connected over DMs and grabbed coffee the next day and totally hit it off.

None of this would’ve happened if I hadn’t started writing on Twitter six months ago. The secret “killer app” of Twitter is the network you can build.

Twitter is a cheat code:

  • Provide value for others

  • Build your personal brand

  • Make real connections

  • Generate unlimited opportunity

The Yes Man Approach:

There’s an old Jim Carrey film called “Yes Man.” The premise of the movie is what happens when a guy starts saying yes to every request, invitation, etc.

When you feel stuck or dissatisfied, the “Yes Man” approach is the way to generate momentum and open the next chapter of your life.

Try it out. For one month, try saying yes to everything that comes your way.

The word “Yes” is the opportunity generator.

It opens the mystery doors in your life.

You never know what lies beyond your next yes.

I’ve been exposed to certain aspects of Ayn Rand’s philosophies, but never read one of her books. Lately, I’ve had friend after friend telling me to read her. One of these friends finally sold me on Anthem. It’s short (I read it in an hour and a half on a flight) and relevant to our current culture war.
