To The Strongest
A badass moment from history
Thought
Alexander the Great ascended to the throne at age 20.
He then proceeded on a conquest of the Persian Empire.
He waged war across the known world. Over 12 years, he never lost a battle and forged one of the largest empires the world has ever seen.
He died at only age 32.
What caused his death? Malaria? A wound from battle that went septic? No one knows. At the time of his death, he had not established a clear successor to take up the throne.
The legend goes that, as he lay dying, one of his generals asked, “Alexander, to whom do you leave your kingdom?”
Alexander replied, “To the strongest.”
This may be the most badass line in all of history. Absolute machismo. Would you expect anything less from the greatest general in history?
I’m already 5 years older than Alexander was when he died. Sometimes I meditate on all he accomplished in his short life and it awes and inspires me.
Alexander was a man who was born and raised for greatness. At the end of his astonishing life, his most prized virtue was strength.
Strength is an eternal pillar of manliness.
Tactic
If you ever have kids, you’ll notice that when babies start to sit and stand they have perfect posture.
The human body is born with perfect mobility. One of the things that babies/toddlers do very well is interact with the ground. They have no trouble crawling around on the ground for long stretches of time in various styles.
Somewhere along the way, we adults lose that ability. We also tend to lose flexibility and range of motion as we age. This is the opposite of what you want.
In fact, if you start from a seated position on the ground, the amount of times you have to touch the ground in order to rise to a standing position indicates your health level. The more touches you require to stand, the closer you are to the grave.
So, how to reverse this trend?
Take a lesson from the youngsters and start crawling for a few minutes every day.
Crawling will fix bad body mechanics that have installed themselves into your movements over the years.
My favorite time to crawl is when I’m warming up for a workout. Getting into a bear crawl will fire up your entire body and get you ready to attack your exercises.
Try it out.
