The Peril Of Absolute Certainty
How to stay nimble
Thought
Have you ever been absolutely certain of something and later discovered you were dead wrong?
Yeah, me too.
Certainty is dangerous for us here in the realm of mere mortals. It gives you tunnel vision. Focused on the wrong target, you miss things.
Part of the human condition is operating with imperfect knowledge.
“It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.”
Have you ever heard of the Socratic Paradox?
The legend goes that the Oracle at Delphi told Socrates he was the wisest man alive.
Upon hearing this, Socrates was astonished, for he believed that he was relatively ignorant compared to the totality of knowledge.
He concluded that he was the wisest because, although all men know next to nothing, he alone was aware of this shortcoming.
It’s a lesson on the eternal importance of healthy skepticism.
A man should have strong beliefs. Some beliefs are even worth dying for.
But, if you ever encounter contradictory information, do not reject it to keep your narrative going.
If you find you are wrong, change your mind.
The faster the better.
Keep it nimble.
Tactic
Have you ever been on the receiving end of a limp handshake?
No bueno.
One of the greatest indicators of your overall strength level is the power of your grip.
A weak grip is an indicator that T levels are low and, that is exactly what this newsletter exists to destroy.
I’ve done a lot of different grip exercises over the years, but recently discovered a new favorite:
Monkey bars.
I’ve been practicing monkey bars every workout.
Building on last week’s tactic, do you remember how easy it was to do monkey bars as a kid? It was so easy that you just did it for fun.
It’s not as easy as an adult, especially if you haven’t trained it in a while.
Swinging your full body weight from bar to bar, while gripping with a single hand, will recruit every muscle in your grip.
Plus, it’s still pretty fun.
Let the grip gains begin.
