A Note from the Future
A meditation on slowing time
Thought
I’m 36 and the rumors are true: time is speeding up.
When you’re young, every experience is brand new. By the time you’re my age, the things that you’ve done a thousand times all compress into a single memory.
On top of that, each day is a smaller piece of the total time you’ve experienced.
Life is racing by, but there is a way to slow it down, and it’s hidden in the sentences above.
New experiences dilate time.
The best way to slow your time travel is to travel in space to unseen lands.
That’s why I’m going to Europe for a whole month! I’ve worked toward this trip for years, and the fruit of my labor is now ripe for the picking.
I’ll be sharing some pictures of my travels in upcoming editions.
This is a huge trip, but the same principle can be applied to smaller trips.
Go somewhere an hour or two away for the weekend. The sense of discovery and adventure will enrich your life.
Tactic
Most people lose the art of play as they mature.
This leads to an ossification of your personality and mind: boring!
Routine is powerful, but it isn’t complete by itself. Add some dynamism into your daily life:
⬨ Take an alternate route home one day
⬨ Start learning a brand new skill (highly recommend a martial art)
⬨ Deeply consider another person’s viewpoint
⬨ Switch up your training regimen
⬨ Create something
⬨ Surprise yourself
This is one thing that makes kids so much fun, they remind us of something we’ve lost. The world is full of magic if only you keep the right lens on it.
