How to find the hidden wisdom you need

Thought

Wisdom comes from unexpected places.

This week I went, on a whim, to see The Last Voyage of the Demeter: a random horror movie about Dracula.

The story takes place on a ship with a crew that is unwittingly transporting Dracula to England. The crew is promised a bonus if they reach their destination quickly. There’s a scene where the captain asks a shipman what he will do with the money and he responds, “All the riches in the world won’t get me what I’m after.”

“Why not?” asks the captain.

“Because I want this world to make sense.”

The captain thinks about this for a moment and says, “I don’t think it’s supposed to make sense, it’s meant to be experienced and accepted.”

This line struck me like a thunderbolt. My whole life I’ve wanted life to make sense. It always felt like I was missing a few pieces of a massive jigsaw puzzle. If I could just find those last pieces, it would all click into place and I could make it make sense.

But it’s not supposed to make perfect sense.

Life is a wild adventure and the struggle is inescapable. In fact, the struggle is life itself.

I know you have endured a seemingly insurmountable challenge at some point in your life and asked, “Why is this happening to me?”

I think understanding the why can be helpful to a certain point.

If you made a mistake that created the pain, then you need to understand your error and fix it.

But in other instances, the cause and effect are impossible to untangle. You did nothing to warrant the situation. For example, you were a child in tough circumstances completely outside of your control. You can spend your entire life searching for a why and never find it.

The thing is, even if you do life perfectly, you’ll still be confronted with hardships that will bring you to your knees.

Even the just suffer.

Sooner or later, you simply must accept the bad things that happen to you.

Even better, reach a point where you learn to love the setbacks, mistakes, failures and difficulties.

Life is one long lesson and these are your greatest teachers.

Tactic

Let’s double click on something I said above, “Wisdom comes from unexpected places.”

God is always putting what you need in front of you, but if you aren’t paying attention, you’ll miss it.

Intuition is the very voice of God.

Ignore it and it quiets.

Pay attention and the volume turns up.

If you aren’t experiencing synchronicities, you’re off your path.

Earlier last week, I was reflecting on a tough episode of my life and even said out loud, “I can’t make sense of this.”

Then a few days later, the wisdom I needed appeared in, of all places, a horror film.

Mysterious, isn’t it?

Focus on opening your ears and mind to the hidden voice of the universe.
