How to get control of your money

I’ve been asked the same question by several friends lately, “How do I get my financial situation in order?”

Money makes the world go round, but for some reason, most of us were raised without an education in personal finance.

Remember this:

Until you get control of your money, money will control you.

And as long as something is controlling you, you’ll never be sovereign.

Sovereignty is the power to decide what you do and when you do it.

There’s material and mental sovereignty; today, we’re going to focus on the material.

The first thing you need to achieve financial freedom is a map. Until you have a clear idea of where you are and where you want to be, you won’t make much progress. Clarity is the ultimate tool.

So, you need to take a hard look at your financial reality. Do you have bad debt? Are you spending money frivolously?

The reality is you’ll never save your way to wealth, but you must live below your means to get ahead.

The two things you must do to achieve financial wealth is:

  1. Increase your income

  2. Develop financial discipline

Once you increase your income, use the additional funds to eliminate bad debt. Once the bad debt is eliminated, use the additional funds to invest.

Good decisions compound. You vastly underestimate what you can accomplish in a decade. Start making wise financial decisions today and you’ll merit a bright tomorrow.

I am on the road right now and was going to visit my sister near San Francisco.

She messaged me today to say she came down hard with covid and her entire family is sick.

So, my trip did not go to plan. When unexpected circumstances arise, you have to roll with the situation and make the most of it.

I rearranged my trip to enjoy a couple days in San Francisco before heading home a bit early.

When life forces our plans to change, it often leads to strange yet valuable experiences. Wish me luck on my unexpected adventure!
