I’ve called New Mexico home for 10 years. When I got here, my life was in shambles. I came to escape heroin addiction and fortunately my plan worked.

I got my life together, went to college and got a great career.

I loved this place and am grateful for all the good experiences, but I’ve outgrown it and am excited to start the next chapter of my life.

I’ve been exploring the U.S. for the last year or so, searching for a place to move to and I finally landed on Nashville. This will be the second big cross-country move of my life.

So, it’s the end of an era and a natural time to reflect on my life.

One of the main thoughts that keeps coming to me is how impossible it is to predict where life will take you next. You can reasonably predict a month out, but the further out you go, the more mysterious the future becomes. What I do know for certain is this:

The best way to squeeze all the juice out of life is to live intensely.

Tactic

Some decisions should be made quickly. Others demand more deliberation.

The more pivotal and irreversible the choice, the more care and consideration it merits.

So, the first skill you must develop is the ability to recognize the weight of the decision. If it won’t matter in a few weeks, don’t spend much time on it.

The place to concentrate your powers of judgment is on those one-way decisions. Once the cut is made, it can’t be unmade. These are the moves that determine the course of your entire life.
