Black Or White

A meditation on optimism

Thought

You don’t have to look far to find reasons to take the black pill these days.

There’s plenty of evidence to make one believe society is on the wrong track and things are getting worse, that the cards are stacked against you, that the future is darker than the present and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it.

But giving into that belief is a mistake.

Even if it turns out years from now that you were right, that today is as good as it’ll ever be for you and that it’s all grim from here, you’d be better off believing the opposite.

Thoughts that bring about a feeling of hopelessness are the wrong thoughts.

A man should never indulge in thoughts such as these, thoughts that compromise his will and determination.

You see, the human mind is a powerful tool. In fact, I would argue that it’s the most powerful force on the face of the Earth. It can be turned towards destruction or creation, chaos or order, darkness or light, but generally not both at once.

The world belongs to the optimists.

Alexander Hamilton

There’s a negative stream of thoughts and a positive one. If you observe your mind closely, you can start to notice little, well-worn trails it wanders down. Some of these loops are negative and circular, leading nowhere. These are the thoughts you shouldn’t entertain.

Remember this:

Optimism is the antidote to hopelessness.

All of the most inspiring people I know hold an optimistic frame over the world.

There’s something about a man who believes, with absolute certainty, in a better future for himself and others, that is white pilling to everyone around him.

A man needs hope to move muscularly and vigorously into the future.

The most powerful man believes, with every atom in his body, that he will win.

This is the type of man who can lead.

This is the type of man the world needs.

Reject the black pill. Take the white pill.
